Scotch and Chocolate - Lots of Funny!

Genre Definition = Funny · Naughty

Classic Fringe!  With a late start the cast of the opening show was perhaps struggling to find their confidence but while young, they’re obviously troopers.

Javia Selina (Veronica) and Jina Anika (Simone) share the stage nicely with good vocals and believability in their roles as best girlfriends.  Kalvin Olafson (Theo) is solid in stage presence and his characterization of the bookish thug with a bit of a crush and Daniel Cardoso (Edwin) amps up his ambitious and hyperbolic Edwin with some pretty suave dance moves.

The interesting Manhattan Transfer-style songs were somewhat drowned out by the background music which was too loud to hear lyrics well.  Perhaps that’s been addressed.  Another quibble would be with the lack of upstage lighting to which I attributed the late start as tech trouble but apparently not as the lights came up on the finale/bows.  It was a shame because the most poignant bits were played upstage and we missed seeing the facial expressions.  Again, this may be worked out by now.

Lots of funny lines and period dialogue with choice bits like “Not on my watch, Doll!” This is playwright Heather Fischer’s first production and a great addition to the Fringe line up.
