Three More Sleepless Nights - A Real Fringe Experience

Drama

What is the fringe festival all about? The fringe in my mind is about bringing a piece of work that is not mainstream. It is something that causes the audience to be part of the experience. It is simple and it is interactive.

Is this production a real fringe experience? Yes, it is. It is also my pick of the Fringe.

We marched down Commercial Drive like elementary kids on an outing to Katrina and Richard's apartment. Katrina and Richard were kind (and intrigued) enough to let the Fringe Festival, the audience and Plank Magazine come over to their home as the venue for a unique show.

Our motley crew settled in after our walk, got refreshments and somewhat got to know each other, we waited to see what would happen next. The front door of the apartment opened, all of us wondering...is it time? We all stopped and the show had begun.

We as the audience did not sit in one place (you could though if you are not that adventurous – I recommend you see what's happening though), but followed the story through the apartment. Following the performance had a cool interactive dimension to it which made you feel you were a fly on the wall in the overall story.

The four artists were able to make the on site venue their own home even though it was their first time being there. Without any struggle they were capable and confident with their abilities and performed naturally even though they were surrounded by the audience. Great job you guys!

The great thing about this production is that you will have a distinct experience compared to the next showing. I encourage anyone to see if they can get to a showing as it only can handle a small number of people.

Caryl Churchill's Three More Sleepless Nights is the “Fringe” experience. Go check it out.
