Willow's Walk: Ripples in Time

Willow's Walk: Ripples in Time

A site-specific production in the bring your own venue (BYOV) category, Willow's Walk: Ripples in Time is a 20 minute short piece at Sculpture Grove which is right beside Alder Bay and Bridge. It is hidden away a bit, so make sure to venture through Granville Island as if you were looking for treasure. Willow (Miranda Allen) is a treasure in her own right as she takes you into time periods of her life and you watch as she puts the big picture together.

This is Miranda Allen's first performance at the Vancouver Fringe Festival. Even with the multiple distractions going on around the audience, she was able to have a good performance in what seems to be a fun little project before she heads out back east.

The inspiration comes from the actual sculpture location and Miranda uses the large, rusty, metalic object as her prop, stage and slide. Go see it and you will get what I am talking about. The way I see Willow's Walk and the other BYOV productions are as if they were Easter Eggs on a movie DVD. You find them and you enjoy them. I would actually see if I could get all of them done in between other shows.

As a Vancouverite, I've been going to Granville Island since I was 8 years old. The sculpture that Miranda Allen uses for her production has been there longer than that and the sculpture shows. Interestingly enough there are no names, labels or signs that explain to you what the sculpture is or who created it. I can see why it was used because of the mysterious and weird design. Thing is, it could be a time machine....
