All the results from the BC Arts Council are trickling in slowly this summer.

Massive cuts are being implemented for all operating clients and some are being cut completely.

However, what's really interesting is that our Province is promising additional funds for BC Arts Council operating clients through the 2010 Sports and Arts Legacy Fund.

The letter reads as follows:

Dear __________________ (Operating Client):

British Columbia’s Arts and Cultural community has faced considerable uncertainty caused by the global economic recession.  In order to help sustain British Columbia's vital creative community, I am pleased to announce that the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts has secured resources from the 2010 Sports and Arts Legacy Fund (Legacy) to assist the British Columbia Arts Council's (Council) annual operating clients.

In order to access this additional assistance, eligible applicants must demonstrate activities which reflect the vision of the Legacy during the coming year.  The vision for the Arts portion of the Legacy is to bring our artists, cultural organizations, creative industries, and communities together with the public in celebration of the unique and vibrant culture that reflects the spirit of British Columbia.  British Columbians were thrilled to see this happen during the Cultural Olympiad, and we wish to continually renew, refresh, and invigorate this spirit.

Please confirm your intent to:  participate in BC Spirit Festivals or Signature Celebration events; engage Artists in Residency; and/or offer programs that feature emerging British Columbian artists.

To be eligible, the Council will need written confirmation of your intent to participate in Legacy activities by September 30, 2010.  Allocations will be pro-rated, based on the adjudicated rankings for 2010/11 operating support from the Council, and funds will be released by October 31, 2010.  For further information on accessing the Legacy funds, please contact the Council by telephone at 250 356-1718 or by email to [email protected].

Sincerely,

Kevin Krueger

Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts
